Christian Singh (Cider Canada founding Board Member), initially interested in skateboarding and filmmaking, transitioned into a career in the cider industry, becoming the head cider maker at Crossmount Cider Co. in Saskatoon. His journey was unconventional, initially aiming for film school before shifting focus towards bioscience at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, influenced by his family’s medical background. Singh’s role involves overseeing production and innovating cider-making processes, leveraging his bioscience education and passion for research. His work, including a successful jalapeno pear cider, exemplifies the fusion of science and creativity in crafting unique ciders.

An interprovincial dispute between Alberta and British Columbia is escalating over wine sales. Alberta’s liquor wholesaler has informed B.C. wineries that their products will be excluded from Alberta retail stores unless they cease direct-to-consumer shipments to Alberta. This move has sparked concerns among B.C. winemakers (inc cider), who argue that they are not violating any laws and that the action threatens interprovincial trade relations. The conflict arises amidst challenges for the B.C. wine industry, including weather-related production issues, and has prompted discussions between the two provinces’ governments to resolve the matter.
