Cider Canada Supports 2021 Federal Budget and wine (cider) support program
April 22, 2021
Cider Canada / Cidre Canada is a new, national association for cider producers who works alongside our provincial partners NW Cider Association, BC Farm Crafted Cider Association, Ontario Craft Cider Association, Cidre du Québec & Nova Scotia Cider.
Budget 2021 proposes to provide $101 million over two years, starting in 2022-23, to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, to implement a program for the wine sector that will support wineries in adapting to ongoing and emerging challenges, in line with Canada’s trade obligations. Although directed at wine, cider is currently classified as a wine so this program should support the almost 370 cider producers across the country and support thousands of jobs across Canada.
We want to thank Ministers Freeland, Bibeau and Ng, their staff and officials as well as the work done by our friends at Wine Growers Canada and their partners in taking a lead on the issue at the World Trade Organization.
We look forward to working alongside other national and provincial associations in the wine, beer and spirits industry to address income and excise tax issues the entire sector is facing in the coming year.
