Federal Government Pre-Budget Submission
The Government of Canada released its budget statement last month, which also partially addressed the Excise Duty issue. However, there is a lot of uncertainty around these funds and what it means for the changes that cider makers have to do starting in Mid-2022. You can read more on our 2021 Budget statement here.
Note that the incoming Excise Duty will cause a large shift in cider makers reporting and taxation process. We are working closely with industry partners and talking with the Government to provide an update on the potential $0.672/0.332 a litre new tax on all cider when it is sold (in Canada or abroad). There is a proposed rebate program so this would be a dollar-in, dollar-out program, however, there are a lot of details that need to be worked out.
As such, it is important that we have a strong association and membership so we can provide a united front against this potentially crippling tax adjustment.

Présentation prébudgétaire du gouvernement fédéral
Le gouvernement du Canada a publié son rapport budgétaire le mois dernier, qui abordait également en partie la question des droits d’accise. Cependant, il y a beaucoup d’incertitude autour de ces fonds et de ce que cela signifie pour les changements que les cidreries doivent faire à partir de la mi-2022. Vous pouvez en savoir plus sur notre déclaration budgétaire 2021 ici .
Notez que les droits d’accise entrants entraîneront un changement important dans le processus de déclaration et de taxation des cidres. Nous travaillons en étroite collaboration avec des partenaires de l’industrie et discutons avec le gouvernement pour fournir une mise à jour sur la nouvelle taxe potentielle de 0,672/0,332 $ le litre sur tout le cidre lorsqu’il est vendu (au Canada ou à l’étranger). Il y a un programme de remise proposé, donc ce serait un programme d’entrée et de sortie, cependant, il y a beaucoup de détails qui doivent être réglés.
En tant que tel, il est important que nous ayons une association et des membres solides afin que nous puissions fournir un front uni contre cet ajustement fiscal potentiellement paralysant.
